Items Needed for Class

By week three, introduction/orientation classes are over with and its time to get serious! As in all courses, there are a few requisite items necessary.

First, you need a "Witches' Bible," by Janet and Stewart Farrar. This is our textbook, and will be studied, one chapter at a time, cover to cover!

It is chock full of great information, history, facts, and folklore. While we do not strictly follow the ritual format, it does provide a useful (and useable) complete religious system.

Your next item necessary for classes is your robe. The color is white and this symbolizes new beginnings. Your new beginning here at the Temple - whether you are a beginner to witchcraft or experienced.

Your robe must be loose, flowing, and to the floor. It must be loose so you can wear clothes under it (underwear and/or bra minimum), and definitely for all the layers of clothes you will need for our winter Sabbats!

The sleeves must be flared and come to the wrist, and then tapered from the armpit to the floor. It may or may not have a hood; that is personal preference.

It must be constructed of a natural material: cotton, linen, or silk. Due to the cost of silk and the "wrinkly-ness" of linen, cotton is the preferred material - "wash and wear".

It must be unadorned - no patterns, lace, etc. No slits up the sides (no matter how shapely your legs are!) and above all it must be kept CLEAN and in good repair.

It will be cinched with a cord, also white, called a cingulum. We start with a cord that is eleven (11) feet long and you are taught how to knot it and wear it on week three.

The singular symbol or our religion, witchcraft, is the pentagram. It is another required item for new students.

It is a five (5) pointed star, with one point up. It must be completely enclosed in a circle - no points sticking out. A circle will only hold energy when unbroken and complete!

Your pentagram must be a pendant on a necklace. As witchcraft is the Craft of the Wise, we advise all students to not let their pentagrams be seen at work, college, or by anybody who doesn't already know about their true involvement in witchcraft. People have been suddenly fired, denied jobs, etc. once their pentagram was seen.

Remember, be WISE.

The tool most used in witchcraft is the athame. It is a double-edged, black handled knife.

It must never have touched blood and it will not have any negative connotations - no Nazi memorabilia etc.

The athame is used only to cut air - drawing pentagrams, and directing energy.

We also start our students on aromatherapy by requiring two (2) oils: Neteru -Egyptian for Gods. It literally is "the essence of what makes a God."

And, URS oil - a jolt of energy for the brain. This oil helps you to study and retain the information you are studying.

We are one the few distributors these oils, made by Uttati International, Inc., the foremost aromatherapy company in the world.

True aromatherapy oils are pure essence oils, uncut by alcohol or base oils.

To use either oil, one would sniff the oil first, and for Neteru place a small dab on the third eye.

For the URS oil, after smelling, a small dab is placed on each temple.

There you have it - your attire, your tool, your symbol, your textbook and your spiritual link.

Now, how about a spell?
